The Rugby Championships

The Rugby Championship is an International rugby union competition that is contested each year by Australia, Argentina, New Zealand and South Africa.

The Rugby Championship is considered to be the toughest rugby competition in the world.

The games between Australia and New Zealand also go towards determining the winner of the Bledisloe Cup. The Freedom Cup is contested by New Zealand and South Africa, and the Mandela Challenge Plate between Australia and South Africa.

Super Rugby

Super Rugby is the largest rugby union competition in the southern hemisphere. The competition initially started out as Super 12, later growing to Super 14 and has now expanded to 15 teams, changing its name to Super Rugby.

It consists of teams from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Currie Cup

The Currie Cup is South Africa's premier domestic rugby union competition, featuring teams representing entire provinces or substantial regions within provinces.

The Currie Cup dates back to 1889 and is one of the oldest rugby competitions in the world. The tournament is regarded as a vital part of South Africa's rugby heritage and the coveted gold trophy is the most prestigious prize in South African domestic rugby.

Rugby League

Super League

Super League is the top-level professional rugby league club competition in the Northern hemisphere. The league has twelve teams: eleven from England and one from France.

Leeds Rhinos are the most successful club in the Super League era, having won 8 titles. However, Wigan Warriors are the most successful club overall, having won 21 British Championships.

The Super League champions play the National Rugby League champions from Australasia in the World Club Challenge at the start of the season.

Betfred Championship

Live coverage of the Betfred Championship, a professional rugby league competition. It is the second-tier competition organised by the English Rugby Football League. 

The league features 12 teams; 10 from England, 1 from France and 1 from Canada

The Toronto Wolfpack

Based in Toronto, Canada but competing in the British Rugby League system, follow the Toronto Wolfpack, a team dedicated to progressing through the RFL’s ranks, from League 1 to the Super League. Toronto Wolfpack are the world’s first transatlantic major professional sports team.

The journey began in 2017 by winning the Kingstone Press League 1 title and promotion in their inaugural season. In 2018 Setanta Sports brings you coverage of the Wolfpack as they compete in the Betfred Championship for the first time.
